The temporary reduction of the natural gas transit was due to technical problems, said Naftogaz’s spokesman, Valentyn Zemlianskyi yesterday, quoted by KievPost.
Romanian imports about one third of its annual gas from Russia, but uses Romgaz’s deposits in winter. Ukraine and Russia are engaged in a prolonged dispute over prices and debts related to Russia’s natural gas supply. This dispute resulted in Gazprom discontinuing gas deliveries to the Ukrainian market on the first day of the year.
Some 80 percent of gas exported by Gazprom to European Union member states transits Ukraine.
