The company entered the Romanian market in 1999, by taking over Cedru Melon factory in Campulung Muscel. Carmeuse bought another three lime factories in the cities Brasov, Deva and Fieni, in partnership with German group Heidelberg Cement. Currently, the Brasov factory is closed.
Carmeuse has a market share of 40 percent and produces some 700,000 tons of lime a year. It invested more than €30 million in Romania so far.
The company’s turnover amounted to €36 million in 2007 and is estimated to remain idle this year.
