Carpatcement Holding’s General Manager, Mihai Rohan, said that the enterprise will continue in 2009 the capacity expansion program started last year, in spite of the impact of the financial crisis on the construction market.
“For now, we are not foreseeing a revision in our 2009 investment strategy. Investments amounted to some €60 million in 2008, and will reach some €55 million,” added Rohan.
The company official indicated that the local cement market will stagnate this year, due to the blockage on the residential segment and the lack of liquidity. “We estimate that the construction market will register a 0-2 percent increase compared to 2008.” The Romanian cement market, valuated at €1 billion in 2008, is shared by HeidelbergCement, Lafarge (France), and Holcim (Switzerland).
