“Carpatica is in the black in the first half of this year, with the profit twice higher than our forecasts for this period. We had a very good second quarter, after the strategy of taking over clients from other banks had significant results. Moreover, we focused on granting loans to SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises], and, at the same time, we kept the old client base,” Hoanta added.
Banca Carpatica posted losses worth RON 11.6 million (€2.7 mln) at the end of the first three months of 2009. For the whole year, the bank’s management budgeted a net profit of RON 6.7 mln (some €1.6 mln).
“We set monthly targets at out territorial units regarding the attraction of a minimum number of clients from other lenders. Generally, these are not high, so they can be met, and differ depending of the economic potential of the region in which the units is in,” the company official said.
He added that the bank focused on attracting people who are already bank clients due to the difficulties that lenders are having in attracting start-ups on the loan segment. BCC’s assets surged 30 percent in the first six months, supported especially by the growth registered in individual deposits, while lending stagnated.
