Carrefour, the third-largest retail group in Romania, is to open a hypermarket in 2009 in the central city of Sibiu, following an investment worth €20 million.
The 13,000 square meter store, with 8,000 sqm sales space, will be housed in the 80,000 sqm European Retail Park commercial center.
Carrefour plans to open a total of 11 stores in 2008 and 2009 in Romania, of which two units in Bucharest. The company was operating 11 hypermarkets by the end of last year. It also entered the supermarket segment in 2007, following the acquisition of the Artima chain, with 21 stores countrywide.
Carrefour Romania posted some €866 mln in net sales in 2007, according to the French group’s financial report.
