In all stores, most sought-after products were pound cakes, chocolate bunnies, Easter cheese cakes, eggs, lamb, alcoholic and soft drinks, and fruits and vegetables.
Due to the current economic context, retailers did not expect significant differences in terms of Easter holiday sales, the second seasonal retail peak, from sales at the same time last year.
According to estimates made at the beginning of 2008, the value of the Romanian fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market should have reached €40 million, of which some 40 percent controlled by modern commerce. Local modern commerce (supermarkets, hypermarkets, discounters, and cash&carry) will continue expanding, gaining market share in the FMCG sector due to the opening of new units.
