By the end of last year, Mecanica Rotes had a share portfolio worth RON 45.9 million (€12.7 mln), of which shares of the two banks made up about one third.
One of Mecanica’s top shareholders is businessman Catalin Chelu, also one of the most important individual capital market investors. Chelu controls 12 percent of the company’s shares in his own name, and there are speculations on the market that he is also behind companies which own major Mecanica share packages.
Mecanica Rotes acquired over 28 percent of the Altur Slatina auto parts producer, which raised the value of its share portfolio some six-fold compared to its end 2006 value. In addition to this transaction, the value of capital market investments of the fittings producer doubled last year compared to 2006.
