Romania’s largest state-owned energy producer, Electrica, which last year ranked first, lost 2 percent in market share in January, dropping to its current 7 percent. Italian Enel group claimed 8 percent of the regulated energy market through its two local subsidiaries, Enel Energie Muntenia and Enel Energie, with each of the two companies securing an extra 1 percent, according to the ANRE report. Other traders, such as Elcomex (5 percent), Furnizare Transilvania Sud (3 percent), E.ON Moldova Furnizare (3 percent), and Transilvania Nord (3 percent), also secured one percent of the market each.
These changes are due to securing or losing contracts with large electricity consumers. Buzzman Industries trader lost 1 percent in market share, down to 4 percent, while Energy Holding, which controlled 6 percent of the market last year, was replaced by Ehol Distribution, with the same percentage, in the ANRE report. According to information recently published by Business Standard, one of the top energy traders in Europe, ATEL, is negotiating the takeover of Ehol Distribution, which took over most of Energy Holding’s contracts. The report also shows that state-owned producers Hidroelectrica and RAAN are no longer among top electricity traders.
