According to the draft budget for 2010, the price of train tickets could rise by up to eight percent next year. In the past two years, tariff increases were suspended, and not updated according to the inflation coefficient, based on data provided by the company.
At present, CFR Calatori, the company that benefits from the largest state subsidy, has payment arrears worth RON 587 million (€137 mln), amounting to half the subsidy for 2009. The arrears accumulated by the end of September were due to the under-financing of the passenger railway transport in the past few years, company official say.
