The Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions Ministry’s Public Relations Adviser, Noemi Hangan, said the contract signed with the World Tourism Organization is worth some €270,600. With the Master Plan finalized, Romania has a long term strategy for tourism, she added. As for the marketing strategy, the Master Plan recommends a classification of source-markets for tourism, based on long, medium and short term opportunities. Thus, countries such as China and Japan are opportunity markets, while Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Britain and Ireland, Hungary, the Baltic countries and the U.S. are priority markets.
The Master Plan indicates that the current mix of marketing and promoting operations (such as foreign offices, participating in tourism fairs, websites, promotion materials, advertising) is not coordinated and is not meant for meeting specific strategic objectives.
UNWTO officials also said that Romania is weakly represented on the tourism website: the style and presentation of www.romaniatourism.com website is apparently old-fashioned and the country is not as well represented as other countries on their websites.
The objectives of the Master Plan to Develop the Romanian Tourism include assessing the necessity regarding training in all industrial areas, marketing, and evaluating the institutional development system throughout the country.
