Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara lead in terms of retail surface per 1,000 inhabitants

At national level, the retail surface per 1,000 inhabitants amounts to 75 sqm, up from the 43 sqm per 1,000 inhabitants registered in 2007, according to BC Richard Ellis-Eurisko.

JLL consultants are expecting a drop in rents for all categories of commercial space, due to the large supply of recently finalized spaces and the general state of uncertainty on the local market. The highest rents in malls amount to some €100-115/sqm/month.

At present, Romania has 38 hypermarkets, 123 supermarkets, 195 discount stores, and 40 cash&carry units. The total value of the Romanian fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market was €41 billion in 2007, and was estimated to reach €43 bln in 2008, while the forecast for this year was €48 bln, according to the MEMRB market research company.
