CMB Travel revises turnover estimate downwards due to crisis

The decision was made due to an estimated drop in demand from clients, in the final months of the year, and to the international financial crisis.

“A trend on the part of companies we work with to optimize their budgets for business travel and events is visible. Some companies made this change as far back as February-March, others did it later,” the company’s owner and President, Cristian Balcescu.

On the leisure travel segment, consumers are opting for less expensive holiday packages, either mini-trips or promotions, he indicated. A drop in costs is also to be expected on the business travel segment. However, added Balcescu, “owing to the fact that Romania has a good business growth rate, we will probably not see a dramatic decline.”

He added that the impact of the crisis will also be felt in the coming two seasons.

In the first eight months of 2008, the company posted some €4.9 million in turnover, 7 percent higher year-on-year, with €0.44 million in profits.

Main players on the local travel market are Happy Tour, Marshal Turism, Aerotravel, Paralela 45, and J’Info Tours.
