Coca-Cola: double-digit growth rate on emerging markets

“Coca-Cola HBC Romania registered high increases in volume in all categories. Higher profit is mainly due to increased purchasing power of the population, the launching of new products, and the favorable business environment once Romania joined the European Union,” Calin Dragan, General Manager of Coca-Cola HBC in Romania and Moldova, told Business Standard.

In the second quarter of 2007, Coca-Cola HBC sales in developing countries rose by 16 percent compared to Q2 2006, to 269 million cases. Emerging markets contributed with €132 million to Coca-Cola’s operational profit in Q1 2007, increasing by 31 percent year-on-year. In Q2 2007 Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine brought €114 million, 33 percent more than in Q2 2006.

“The three main factors that contributed to the group’s financial results were strong economic growth, the efficient use of our revenues, and lower operational costs,” Melina Androutsopoulou, Investor Relations Director of Coca-Cola HBC, told Business Standard.

The Coca-Cola Israel company, owned by the Moshe Werttiem family, intends to distribute dairy products on the Romanian market, in cooperation with the German Müller group and is considering the possibility of building several factories in Romania, according to sources close to the company.
