Colgate-Palmolive closes its Brasov factory to relocate to Poland

Colgate-Palmolive is one of the top oral hygiene goods producers on the local market, with a turnover of some €59 million in 2006, and profit worth some RON 30 mln (some €9 mln). The company is closing its Brasov factory several years after it announced its intention for closure.

“The Colgate Palmolive company announced it intended to consolidate its Eastern European cleaning products production. Consolidation plans will be implemented gradually throughout a transition period, which should be finalized by the end of 2008,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by Gabriela Popescu, Legal Director for Colgate-Palmolive.

The Brasov closure will lead to 45 employees being made redundant.

Its direct competitors are Procter&Gamble and GlaxoSmithKline.

The group came to Romania in 1992, when it established Colgate-Palmolive Romania with Norvea, and production facilities in Brasov and Bucharest. In 2006, it acquired 24 percent of the share package owned by Norvea Brasov for over €25 mln, to increase its participation in the Romanian branch to 100 percent.
