Construction acquisitions exceeded €125 mln in 2008

This year, acquisitions on this segment exceeded €125 million, according to calculations made by Business Standard.

The top deal so far in 2008, worth €53 million, was the takeover of controlling interests in seven companies included in the Simcor Oradea group by another construction material producer, Macon Deva, controlled by Enterprise Investor, the manager of the PEF-V investment fund, which was officially finalized in July. The takeover of Simcor Oradea makes Macon Romania’s largest breezeblock producer, with some 30 percent in market share.

Also in July, paint producer dufa Deutek, controlled by U.S. Advent International investment fund, acquired the Scan adhesive producer for €4 million. This is the second acquisition made by the investment fund, following the takeover of another adhesive producer, Bengoss Comimpex, for €18.9 million. Following these acquisitions, the company expects consolidated business worth €65-70 million in 2009, compared to €50 mln estimated for this year.

Another investment fund with local operations, Oresa Ventures, took over three construction material factories from Somaco Bucharest, which has a total of six companies. The fund paid €32.5 million for the three production units.

The local construction market amounted to some €10 billion in 2007, 35 percent higher year-on-year, and market players expect at least the same growth rate for 2008. The volume in construction work in the January-June period rose 34 percent.
