“One of the most sought after position on the market is that of construction project manager. It is extremely difficult to find people with domestic as well as international professional experience, able to manage projects worth millions of euros,” said the Business Unit Manager of Barnett McCall Recruitment, Andreea Lupan, one of the main companies on the human resources market. Wages offered to construction project managers reflect their scarcity.
Just as in the case of company managers, there are differences in salaries offered to foreigners and those of Romanians, because of the distinct professional experience. A Romanian Project Manager could go up to a €5-6.000 maximum net wage, while a foreign specialist, with 15-20 years of working experience in large projects, would receive a minimum of €10,000.
“In the last 2-3 years, many foreign project managers came to work in Romania through consulting companies in the field. Furthermore, Romanian specialists who worked abroad are returning, as Romanian wages are closing on those offered abroad,” said Andreea Lupan. A project manager usually earns bonuses for finishing projects in the allocated time and budget. “The construction project manager has more responsibilities - an impressive budget, various resources, large teams,” explained Lupan. IT project managers’ salaries are lower, usually about €3,500-4,000 per month.
Usually, a company intending to hire a project manager must wait for a few months in order for the candidate to finish his ongoing projects. For complex works, like residential complexes, companies hire several project managers.
