Cosmote Romania, the third-largest mobile service operator in terms of users, reported 4.6 million clients this month, with an announcement expected of some 4.1-4.2 million clients for the end of the first quarter, according to market sources for Business Standard.

Company representatives declined to comment on the information.
The local subsidiary of Greek Cosmote group is to officially publish today its financial data for Q1. Greece’s largest telecom operator OTE, owner of Cosmote Romania, also owns 54 percent of Romania’s largest landline phone operator, Romtelecom.

Sources told Business Standard that for 4.1-4.2 million clients the average revenue per user (ARPU) will not exceed €5. For 2007, the company announced €5.6 in ARPU, with income worth €155.6 million and 3.6 million clients.
Vodafone, the second-largest operator in terms of clients, had ARPU worth €11 in the past fiscal year.

Cosmote’s main competitors on the local market are Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania, and Zapp.
