Romania’s largest player on the white wine segment, Cotnari, could enter the red wines segment in the following years, as the company management considers planting vineyards with famous local Feteasca Neagra variety.
Cotnari’s main competitor, wine producer Jidvei, recently announced plans to produce red wines.
With a 19 percent share of the white wines market, Cotnari has several local wine varieties portfolio, including Grasa de Cotnari, Francusa and Tamaioasa Romaneasca. Grasa de Cotnari is best-seller, with a 30 percent share of total sales.
The local wine market is worth some €450 million and is expected to increase by 15 percent this year, according to producers. Main players are Murfatlar, Cotnari, Jidvei, Vincon, Cramele Recas, and Domeniile Tohani.
