Crisis drives Romaqua to suspend investments

“Most of our 2008 goals have been met. There were some things which did not go the way we wanted,” Romaqua Group’s Chairman, Octavian Cretu, told Business Standard.

Regarding the effects of the crisis, Cretu said that the market on which the group is operating cannot be unpredictable, but this depends on the decisions of the authorities.

Romaqua opened its first beer factory in 2008 in Alba County, following a €40 mln investment, in which it produces the Albacher brand, which gained a 3.3 percent market share in just four months since its launch.

The domestic soft drink market, which includes mineral water, is worth some €900 mln and amounts to 2.2 billion liters, according to data provided by market companies. Main players include Romaqua, European Drinks, and Coca-Cola.
