D-Link’s established its Romanian office in 2005 and the company’s main business in Romania is supplying small and medium enterprises with networking equipment.
“Next year we will transfer the client service center from Western Europe to Romania, because of the well prepared work force here and because of labor-related costs, more competitive than in Western Europe,” added Wen.
The project will start in the second half of 2008, when the company will employ 30 people. Up to now, D-Link needed marketing and sales staff, while the new call center will employ engineers.
“We know Romania has very good technical specialists and this is a very important aspect for us. The other reason is about language. Here we can find people who speak many foreign languages,” added Kevin Wen.
The D-Link representative did not make forecasts of staff growth rate in the service center, explaining this is a matter of how quick the transfer of operations will take place.
The call center’s clients will be D-Link’s clients in Western Europe, Romania and part of Eastern Europe.
“It is difficult to estimate the investment we will make in this call center because we only started prospection in July, but I can tell you that investment as well services will be separate of the D-Link office in Romania,” said Wen.
The Romanian call center market was worth some €73.9 million at the end of 2006, and its size is twice the similar market in Bulgaria. Currently, some 250 companies provide call center services in Romania, and their number is rising by 10-20 year-on-year.
D-Link’s global revenues amounted to $1.28 billion (€0.9 bln) in 2006.
