“We carry out a revision at Dacia every year, for a period set in advance, usually in the summer. This is when we check and repair all machinery, for which we discovered we need spare parts or revisions throughout the year. We have all the parts prepared, and only have to operate the necessary repairs,” the Vice President of Automobile Dacia, Constantin Stroe, said.
This production stoppage will not affect the company’s financial results at the end of this year. “Dacia currently has a production stock prepared to meet export contracts and, moreover, the employees in the trading department will continue to work in August,” Stroe added.
The 14,000 employees who will go on holiday in August will receive their salaries according to the collective work contract, plus a holiday bonus. The highest holiday bonus received by a Dacia employee amounts to some RON 1,400 (€330), according to the official. This amount is almost 130 percent higher than that previously announced, according to the collective work contract negotiated in February.
The local carmaker sold more than 153,000 cars in the first six months of 2009, 20.3 percent more year-on-year, of which over 130,000 were exported.
