Dacia sales up 16%

Of total sales volume, 96,214 units were cars, 13.9 percent higher year-on-year and 7,209 units were commercial vehicles, 70.1 percent higher year-on-year.

The company sold 19,407 units in May, 21.6 percent lower than in the same period in 2007, as clients were expecting the launch of the new Sandero model in June.

Dacia sold over 230,000 vehicles last year, 17.6 percent more than in 2006, of which 102,062 on the Romanian market, 5.2 percent lower year-on-year.

Car registrations in Romania rose 9.8 percent in the first five months of 2008, to 121,618 units, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association. Romanian ranks 12th in Europe in terms of new registered cars.
