Dacia sales up 17.1% while market share declines

Of these 181,081 were cars, 15.4 percent higher than in the same period last year, and 8,925 light commercial vehicles, 46.6 percent higher than in January-September 2007.

However, the market share of the Renault group dropped 4.2 percent in Romania by the end of September, to 34.4 percent, while Dacia’s market share is 27.1 percent locally.

Dacia sold some 69,700 cars in Romania in the first nine months of 2008, 10.6 percent lower than in the same period last year.

Renault is to invest approximately €300 million in the Romanian car factory by 2009, leading total investments up to €1.6 billion, in order to increase annual production capacity to 400,000 units and research and development operations. This year’s total production stands at 290,000 units, down from 350,000 cars previously estimated, due to a strike organized by Dacia workers last March.

Romania is the Renault group’s seventh-largest market, in terms of sales, with a total 88,321 units sold in the first three quarters.
