Dacia sales up 31 percent, to 83,917 vehicles

Sales by Automobile Dacia car producer increased 31 percent in the first three months of the year, to 83,917 vehicles, of which 78,816 were cars and 5,101 commercial vehicles, announced Renault, Dacia’s owner.

The company’s car sales advanced 29.2 percent in Q1 2008, while that of commercial vehicles increased 71.1 percent.

In April, Dacia sales rose 17.1 percent, to 21,393 vehicles. A similar increase occurred in March, when the demand for cars advanced 17.9 percent, to 20,083 units.

The company will launch its new Sandero model in June, which was already presented at the Geneva Auto Show.

The French Renault group sold 36,546 units in Romania and had a market share of 34.6 percent. Dacia cars made up 28,579 of total sales.
The number of new registered vehicles rose 17.3 percent in Q1 2008, to 96,971 units. The Romanian market ranks fourth in terms of growth, according to European Automobile Manufacturers’Association.

Romania ranks 12th in Europe in terms of new registered vehicles.
