Dan Iosif was a member of Romania’s largest opposition party, the Social Democrat Party, PSD. He became a PSD deputy in 2004 and was one of the councilors former President Ion Iliescu had.
The former deputy was one of the leaders of the insurgents who gathered in Piata Universitatii to protest against the communist regime. After the fall of the communist regime, Dan Iosif became one of Iliescu’s closest allies.
Dan Iosif was heard by prosecutors in 2006, in the file concerning the miners’ riot in 1990 when miners arrived in Bucharest to break the street protests staged by students. Tens of students were injured then.
