Danone says fruit yogurt is safe after Romanian authorities pulled batches from shelves
The Food Safety Authority has withdrawn from sale several batches of fruit yogurt, refusing to mention the brands or quantity. The local daily newspaper “Evenimentul Zilei” published today an article saying the batches belong to Danone and “the yogurts might contain dioxin, a noxious substance for consumers' health.”

The Danone yogurt suspected of being contaminated with dioxin has been found in stores in 31 counties and the food safety inspectors started to withdraw all products on August 14 when the European Commission sent a notification.

The company, the world's largest yogurt maker, has complied with the European Commission's suggestions and took measures to stop using the suspected guaran for fruit yogurts and to analyze in the European laboratory several batches of products.

The long term consumption of more than ten picograms of dioxin per body kilogram can lead to hormonal disorders and favor the occurrence of breast and prostate cancer.
