"If the growth pace of the dairy market 20 percent, Delaco wants an increase of at least 50 percent," Delaco's CEO and majority shareholder, Tudor Comaniciu, told Business Standard.

In 2007, Delaco invested €2 mln in a new cold storage facility, tripling the company’s 2006 capacity. Comaniciu said that investments in storage facilities are justified by the company's intentions to concentrate most of its business in the center of the country. Delaco currently has regional storage facilities in Arad, Bucharest, and Bacau, and new ones will be set in Cluj, Constanta, and Craiova.

The domestic dairy market is valuated at some €800 mlnMain producers are Danone, Friesland, Albalact, Brailact, and Covalact. According to Comaniciu, Delaco's target is a 4 percent market share by year-end, owing to very good sales of cheese products. Delaco produces UHT milk, specialty cheeses, and cheese snacks, and some 65 percent of these products are distributed in hypermarkets and supermarkets. Ownership of the company is shared by Tudor Comaniciu (57 percent), Dragos Comaniciu (28 percent), and Victor Vartolomei (15 percent).

Romania’s consumption is made up of a daily 5.4 kg of fresh dairy, while in Germany this reaches 33.6 kg, in France 33.7 kg, and in Bulgaria 16.2 kg, according to Danone Romania.
