Deloitte: Private health care in CE to increase nine-fold

The Deloitte study forecasts a moderate growth perspective for Romania, a country with a yet underdeveloped private health care market, even in the regional context. However, Deloitte also acknowledges the government’s efforts to encourage preventive and primary assistance. The study defines the health care market as including private insurance system subsidized services, as well as those by subscription and payment per service.

The study further indicates that expenditures for health care in CE will increase 1.1-2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), due to demographic changes due to the aging population. The expenditures for health care in the EU-15 amount to 9.4 percent of GDP, compared to 6 percent in Central Europe.

Romania spends $8.2 bln on health care, and its private system is very underdeveloped, indicates the Deloitte study. The perspective for the market’s development is moderate, however, in spite of efforts by the government to foster a private system.
