Voestalpine is due to decide this year in which country it will build its factory, and other countries being considered are Ukraine and Turkey. The analysis carried out by the Austrian daily highlights the advantages and disadvantages which Voestalpine will have in each country. Der Standart shows that although Ukraine and Turkey have not been excluded from the list, Bulgaria and Romania are the favorites. Bulgaria’s advantages for attracting foreign investors include cheap electricity, while Romania’s are its major need for infrastructure and its highly evolved auto industry, both of which require steel products. Der Standart indicated that Bulgaria was more aggressive in its efforts to attract the project. The company’s spokesman said that the price of electricity is not a decisive factor for the choice of location for the steel mill.
