Taiwanese laptop producer Asustek Computer (Asus) is anticipating that income on the Romanian market will double.
“In the first quarter of this year, Asus sales in Romania soared 179.8 percent year-on-year,” said Country Manager Luca Rossi.
The company had planned to open an office in Romania in fall 2007, but rescheduled the opening for May. By the end of this year, Asus will have a team of some 12 people. In Q4 of last year, Asus had a market share of 8-10 percent.
In Eastern Europe, excepting Russia, company sales were 20 percent of total sales in Europe, which in turn makes up 55 percent of Asus sales worldwide. Main distributors of Asus in Romania are RHS Company, K-Tech Electronics, Romsoft and Tornado.
For 2008, specialists are estimating the notebook market to be worth some €300 million, with a volume of some 500,000 units. Romania will follow the trend in Europe, where notebook sales have increased.
