Distrigaz Sud was acquired by the Gaz de France group from the Romanian state in May 2005, for €311 mln, of which €128 mln were paid for the direct acquisition of a 30 percent package of the company’s share capital, to reach 51 percent of total shares. The money was to be invested in the company. On 5 April 2006, the 51 percent share package of Distrigaz Sud was transferred from GDF International to Romania Gas Holding BV Holland, controlled by GDF SUEZ.

Following the €0.38 mln loss registered in 2005, Distrigaz Sud posted in 2006 and 2007 a total net profit worth €99.3 mln, and has yet to report its 2008 result.
