Domestic flights back in low cost operator strategy
The company thus becomes the main competitor of national railroad operator, CFR Calatori. A Blue Air flight to Arad costs RON 53 (€14.33) including airport taxes, and takes 50 minutes, while the 10-hour Bucharest-Arad trip on one of CFR’s fastest trains, the Intercity, costs double, at RON 106 (€28.66).

Blue Air has been operating flights to Valencia, Barcelona, Verona and Stuttgart from Arad airport. The company had a domestic flight to Arad, but cancelled this in 2005. Blue Air gave up its flight to Cluj-Napoca last year, saying it was not profitable.

Another low cost operator, Wizz Air, decided to introduce a domestic route to Cluj-Napoca at the end of February.
