Dramatic declines in the profits of Oltenia-based energy complexes in H1

The Rovinari complex posted a net profit worth RON 2.18 million (€0.52 mln) in the first half of this year, a staggering 95 percent drop year-on-year, due to investments in modernization and complying with environmental standards, according to the company’s spokesman, Leonard Filip, quoted by the NewsIn agency.

“Most of our expenses in the first six months of 2009 were made for the modernization of energy block 6. Even so, our profit is double that registered by CE Craiova. For this year’s second half, we plan to make other environmental investments and comply with European standards,” Filip added.

The Craiova complex, leader of traders and the sixth-largest local electricity producer, registered a net profit of RON 1 mln (€0.23 mln) in H1, 17 times less than the RON 17 mln (€4.6 mln) in the corresponding period of 2008, due to the decline in energy demand, caused by the crisis.

The net income of CE Turceni, the largest thermo-electric plant in Romania, fell almost fivefold in the first six months, to RON 18 mln (€4.2 mln), compared to RON 87 mln (€23.7 mln) in H1 2008, especially because of a drop in sales, and also due to setting up provisions for the CO2 emission certificates.
