Dutch-based retailer Spar spends EUR 850,000 to open its 14th supermarket in Romania

The store will stretch over 1,250 square meters of which 800 square meters represent the sale area. The supermarket will sell a range of 7,300 products of which 35 percent are fresh. Spar hired 41 people for this location.

The company approached the Romanian retail market in 2005. The company currently runs supermarkets in Arad, Resita, Deva, Odorheiu-Secuiesc, Alba Iulia, Hateg, Medias, Ramnicu-Valcea, Orsova, Sfantu-Gheorghe and Targu Mures. The total investment exceeds 22 million euros.

The company’s long-term target is to open a hypermarket in every important Romanian city and to reach a total of 250 supermarkets.

Spar operates 15,000 supermarkets in 34 countries worldwide. The company’s revenues stood at 28 billion euros in 2005.
