In the first five months of 2008, Electrica doubled its market share to 10 percent, compared to 5 percent in 2007. Energy Holding, instead, almost halved market share, to 11 percent, compared to €19 percent last year.
Energy Holding officials told Business Standard that the decline in market share was caused by the closure of distribution contracts for two of Romania’s major entities, oil company Petrom and chemical plant Oltchim. The company is to focus on diversifying operations, instead of recovering the lost ground, they added.
Electrica is the new energy supplier of Oltchim. The company also closed an electricity delivery deal with aluminum producer Alro Slatina, a major consumer, and further deals with smaller consumers.
