Elit also expects net profit worth €6 million, according to the company’s Sales Manager, Florin Filipescu.
The domestic cold meats market amounts to some 200,000 tons of products, worth about €700 million. Main players on the market are Cris-Tim, Caroli, Campofrio and Aldis. According to company officials, Elit is among the top 5 producers, with a seven percent market share.
Elit, owned by businessman Dorin Mateiu, will begin operating a new cold meats production unit in the city of Alba Iulia , following a €12 million investment. The factory, which extends over 14,000 sqm, will have a daily production capacity of 100 tons. The €5.2 million investment will allow Elit to process up to 4,500 animals a day.
The unit meets EU standards, so Elit can export its products to the European Union, according to company officials. Elit now has a factory in the town of
Cugir
, with a 50 ton/per day production capacity. This year, the company will also finalize the construction of a slaughterhouse, with equipment in compliance with EU regulations. Furthermore, Elit plans to invest in several plants to reduce imports of raw materials, currently amounting to 90 percent of its entire production. “This year, we are also working on developing a 20 hectare hog farm, which requires a 2 million euro investment, and a bull farm,”
Filipescu added. Elit has some 150 cold meat products in its portfolio, of which it sells some 70 percent in
Transylvania
. To expand its sales in other areas of the country, the company is spending some €700,000 this year on a TV advertising and communication campaign. Dorin Mateiu also has a company to import and distribute raw materials for the meat industry, and an international transportation company.
