According to the employers' representative, Adrian Izvoranu, a minimum wage of 540 lei (160 euros) will not affect company's internal costs. Any increase above this could lead to higher inflation and other costs, he said.
Employers expressed disagreement over the two existing minimum wages (the one established by the government and the one negotiated by unions and employers) and they demanded a solution. ACPR also asks to reduce labor taxes.
Unions and employers met on Monday for the second time to discuss increasing the minimum wage for the next year but failed to reach an agreement and a new round of talks have been scheduled for next week.
Unions have asked employers for a minimum wage of 700 lei (205 euros) for unskilled workers, a 260 lei (77 euros) increase, which employers have rejected, saying the increase is too large in proportion to the workers' output.
In 2007, the minimum wage negotiated by unions and employers is 440 lei (130 euros) for unskilled workers and 880 lei (260 euros) for university graduates. The minimum wage for government employees is 390 lei (120 euros).
