Romania used to rank first in Europe in terms of employment on the construction segment. In the fourth quarter, it will be outranked by Poland, with a 34 percent recruitment forecast, Greece, with 22 percent and Belgium, with 15 percent.
“It is natural that employment rate declines during fall-winter season. Companies do not take chances in hiring people and paying them during seasons with low activity,” the General Manager of Constructions Companies Employers Union, Adriana Iftimie, said. “Another reason for this decline is that 2008 is an elections year. There are financing problems before the elections, while local management changes lead to delays after the elections,” she added.
