New orders in Romania’s industry fell 19.1 percent in May compared to May 2008, less than the 28 percent average of the European Union, but more than the 30.1 percent drop registered in the euro zone, according to data published by the Statistical Office of the European Communities, Eurostat.
The statistical office centralized data for 22 member countries and reported that all registered drops in new industrial orders, the highest declines being in Estonia (39.8 percent), Finland (39.6 percent), and Lithuania (38.5 percent). On the other hand, Ireland had the least drop (9.3 percent), compared to May 2008, followed by the United Kingdom (11.3 percent), and Poland (15.4 percent).
Compared to April, new industrial orders increased 0.3 percent in May, the second consecutive monthly increase. New industrial orders rose 0.9 percent in the EU, but fell slightly, by 0.2 percent, in the euro zone.
