Eurolines: The bus transport market down 35-40%

“We estimate that the bus transport market has fallen dramatically, by some 35-40 percent. In our case, the drop was of approximately 15 percent, because we attracted some of the clients of our competitors,” the Sales Manager for Eurolines, Cosmin Marinof, told Business Standard.

The net sales registered by the same segment of the group were of some RON 20 million (approximately €4.72 mln) in the first six months of this year, down 15 percent annually.

Regarding the number of passengers, Eurolines buses carried 60,000 passengers in the first half of 2009 at the global level, 15 percent less compared to the corresponding period in 2008. Most requested Eurolines destinations on the bus segment are Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

Companies included in the Eurolines group are Touring EuropaBus Romania (the sales network, own products, and products of other tour-operators), Rombus Transport (bus fleet), Nova Travel (tour-operator), Touring Rent Auto (car rental), Intertouring GMBH (agency network in Germany), Touring IT Logistics (IT software developer).

On the international passenger land transport market, the main competitor of Eurolines is Atlassib, leader of this sector, controlled by businessman Ilie Carabulea.
