Euromedic, operator of five medical imaging clinics, will invest €40 million in the coming 18 months in new equipment and network expansion.
The company has invested €5 mln in positron emission tomography (PET) and computerized tomography (CT) equipment for oncological investigations, only available until now in Budapest. Euromedic has invested €30 mln in Romania since 2000.
The company also plans to invest in dialysis centers. Euromedic Romania is part of the Euromedic International group, owned by the Warburg Pincus investment fund and General Electric. The group operates 150 dialysis and imaging centers in 14 European states. There are three PET/CTs in Poland, and Romania would need some six such machines in Bucharest and one for each university center, according to estimates.
The cost for a PET/CT scan is RON 4,500 (some €1,230), not supported by the National Health Insurance House. Euromedic posted turnover last year worth €6 mln, and is forecasting an increase of 35-40 percent due to the new investments in Romania.
