However, computed in euro, the drop is sharper, exceeding 16 percent, due to the depreciation of the leu.
“We are maintaining the level registered in 2008, when we had revenues worth RON 21.34 million (€5.76 million),” Eximtur’s owner, Lucia Morariu, told Business Standard.
The early-booking program contributed significantly to the registered turnover. “In the first quarter of 2009, Eximtur sold holiday packages in Romania worth RON 4.5 million (about €1 million). Of this amount, RON 2.8 million are holidays bought through the early-booking program,” Morariu said.
According to the company official, holiday sales rose in Romania by an annual 229.46 percent between 1 January and 31 March. Eximtur posted €40.5 mln in net sales last year. The agency’s main competitors on the local market are Happy Tour, Paralela 45, and Marshal Tourism.
