“The growth for OTC is foreseen at 70 percent. If the OTC segment used to make up 10-12 percent of total business, it will make up some 18-20 percent of total net sales in 2009,” the company’s President and founder, Ovidiu Buluc, said.
This year, the company significantly expanded its non-prescription drug portfolio for pharmacies to support the estimated growth.
Last year, Farmexim business rose 22 percent, but it posted €10 million in losses due to fixed prices of drugs and the devaluation of the leu. All distributors are posting losses, Buluc said. “We managed the crisis well, we made operational profit, but due to the prices imposed by the former minister, this profit was insufficient to cover losses from depreciation,” he added.
Other major distributors on the market are A&D Pharma, Fildas, Farmexpert and Relad.
