Finance minister promises businesspeople fiscal stability

“Ministry experts are currently working on the medium-term expense frame. As long as we have a target for entering the euro zone, such a strategy is necessary,” Pogea told Business Standard.

The Romanian Businesspeople Association (AOAR) requested yesterday that authorities draft a fiscal strategy on at least three years, arguing that the contradicting statements of the Government representatives regarding various fiscal measures to be taken in 2009 and 2010 are creating confusion. Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) Constantin Nita stepped over the decisions made by the Ministry of Finance saying that the lump-sum tax could be eliminated as of this fall. The statement came about one week after the new modifications of the Fiscal Code (the lump-sum tax, restrictions on VAT deduction on car and fuel acquisition, a 16 percent tax on reserves from revaluation), went into effect. The Chief Executive Officer of the Romanian Employers Confederacy Alliance, Adrian Izvoranu, supports the government’s decisions, adding that AOAR’s request is unrealistic.
