Finance Minister urges Romanians to buy state bonds

Finance and Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian said on Thursday that he is considering issuing state bonds for the population, if banks maintain high interest rates on the financial market.

“If banks maintain this policy (...) I will urge the population to buy state shares," he said. According to Vosganian, bonds issued by the Finance Ministry are aimed at stabilizing the financial market.

Furthermore, the Minister said he plans to meet analysts next week to discuss the 2009 draft budget. The draft was read during Wednesday’s government meeting, but is to be approved only next week.
