The complex was named Arsenal because it has taken the place of a former ammunition depot. “Tourists will sleep in ammunition warehouses turned into villas,” the group’s President, Marius Cristescu, told Business Standard.
The resort will offer accommodation for 400, and special areas for golf, horse-riding, spas and other sports. The investment, estimated at €20 million, is being developed in two stages. The first one includes accommodation for 150, of which some are intended for unconventional tourists. “There will be several rooms in which tourists can sleep in a gun carriage and others in which they sleep in tanks, which we acquired earlier from the army. There is also accommodation underground, in tunnels also taken over from the army,” Cristescu said.
The second stage will include 25 exclusive villas and a golf course.
The Bega group owns three hotels in western Romania and a pension in the mountain resort of Sinaia.
