Five companies compete for €535 mln sanitation contract
Sanitation and waste management companies ROSAL, REBU, URBAN, ROMPREST and Servicii Salubritate Bucuresti (SSB) are participating in the tender for Bucharest’s Sector 1 sanitation services, worth €535.5 million for the next 25 years, according to Sector 1 City Hall.

The five companies yesterday filed their offers for the tender. The winner will be announced within 90 days. Representatives of City Hall, the Local Council, the Finance Ministry, and the National Authority for Community Services and Utilities (ANRSC) will be part of the commission established to study tender offers.

“This is one of the most important tenders organized in Bucharest since 1989. The sanitation contract for Sector 1 is much larger than the previous one,” according to City Hall’s Communication Manager, Alexandru Ichim.

The previous contract was granted to REBU, the former public Urban Sanitation Department. The company charged a monthly €1 mln and covered 70 percent of the sector’s streets. “From now on, we will pay no more than €1.5 million per month for all the sector’s streets. In addition, the new sanitation operator will be in charge of collecting household waste,” Ichim added. To date, REBU has been responsible for this on the basis of a contract with the sector’s inhabitants, and individuals will now no longer pay waste management taxes. (NewsIn)
