Five Johnson&Johnson brands yield €10 mln in sales

“We have the shortest price list of the 20 top OTC companies, and yet we climbed from 14th place to 11th in the past two years.  Of course we are investigating the opportunity to launch new drugs, but we also want to ensure that the portfolio does not turn into one that has many brands with low added value. I believe in champion products.  Three of the five brands we have are leaders in their category,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by Mihai Ciobanu, OTC Manager at Johnson&Johnson Romania.

Johnson&Johnson, which took over Pfizer’s international OTC division in 2006, has five brands in its portfolio with 18 products: Olynth, Hexoral, Visine, Nicorette and Ben Gay.  Sales on the OTC market enjoyed significant growth locally, with the company selling more in the first quarter of 2008 (€2.9 mln) than in the full-year 2005 (€2.6 mln).  According to Ciobanu, the company’s top seller is the Olynth nasal decongestant, whose sales were worth €3.2 mln in 2007, up from €1.2 mln the previous year.
