Flamingo: Game console market worth €11 mln in 2008

Flamingo International, one of the most important electronics, household appliance and IT&C retailers in Romania, estimates that the local game console market will reach €11 mln in 2008, 50 percent higher year-on-year. The company expects Play Station consoles to help it maintain its the current market share of some 95 percent.

Jiri Rizek, CEO of Flamingo International, says that he forecasts that the company will reach a 40 percent market share in terms of game consoles.

Flamingo sold 2,000 Play Station 3 consoles in 2007, 3,500 Play Station Portable consoles, and 10,000 Play Station 2 consoles, reaching a 30 percent market share.

The company sold some 40,000 game units, which contributed 55 percent to total sales on the game segment in 2007.

According to market players, the Romanian gaming market soared 150 percent in the last three years and has begun splitting from the “PC only” trend.
