Capital entries in January totaled €517 mln, compared to exits worth some €100 mln, according to the National Trade Register Office (ONRC). The net value of foreign investments, of €417 mln, was 25 percent lower year-on-year in January 2009, but 25 percent higher compared to December 2008. In January 2008, foreign investments totaled €560 mln, compared to €332 mln in December 2008.
The second-largest capital increase made in January was by the German Schaeffler car parts producer, which invested some €50 mln. The Roche Romania company, operating on the pharmaceutical market, ranks third, with €37.7 mln.
The number of newly-established companies with foreign investments dropped in January 2009 to 624, from 955 in January 2008. The capital invested in newly-founded enterprises amounted to €3.3 mln, five times less year-on-year.
